Packet #46

Social Cognition - Verbal Memory

Social Cognition and Memory are the focus of this worksheet packet. This worksheet packet is packed full. 21 unique exercises span 38 pages in the packet. The key theme of this packet is emotions.

This packet will start by focusing on individuals and their emotions. Your patient must recognize emotions in each person’s face to correctly pick them out from the word box. Next, your patient will have to sort a list of emotional words alphabetically. This may help their memory recall emotion-based words in a normal sentence. After they review the bunches of emotional words, your patient will then have to memorize a list of emotions and find it in a mess of other emotions. This will use help to engage their verbal working memory. Lastly, your patient will have to do 3 different variations of root it out. The first is an unscrambled version. The second is a fill-in-the-missing letter. The last exercise is like the digital exercise Root it Out, except your patient must recall emotion-based words that start with a given letter.

From remembering people’s names and emotions to recalling emotional words, your patients will enjoy this packet. We recommend this packet for kids aged 8+ and individuals who want to work on their emotions.

Included inside: 38 worksheets and bridging questions.

The digital exercises that inspired this worksheet

I Remember You!

We see people with familiar faces everyday. Facial recognition is important for remembering who our family, friends, neighbors, coworkers, and classmates are. In this exercise, your client must correctly remember the face and name of a person and correctly place the face of a person with their name tag at a table.

Root it Out

In everyday life, we like to share jokes, things we have learned, and things we find amusing. Sometimes, accessing our memory to retrieve information for use on the spot can be very difficult. In this exercise, your client will be presented with the root of a word and they must derive as many words as they can using the root that they are given. While this exercise targets verbal memory and fluency, it can also help with word formation and learning by trial-and-error.

Elephant Memory

In everyday life, we encounter situations where we must remember information either in the form of words, letters, or numbers. The ability to recall words is needed for speaking, writing, and comprehending language. In this exercise, your clients must memorize a list of words while developing effective strategies to help them remember the words that they have seen. This activity challenges verbal memory, needed for situations such as remembering a grocery list or instructions from a doctor.

Countdown

Using strategic planning, reasoning, and cognitive flexibility, your client must try to decipher how to arrive at a given solution using the given numbers, given operators, as well as the results of their steps to arrive at a specific solution. This exercise highly targets executive functioning, but also targets working memory by way of requiring your client to remember which numbers and operators they have used and keep track of unsuccessful attempts so as to avoid repeating the same mistakes. Your client must develop and implement strategies for effective planning while also practicing how to effectively solve problems using some degree of trial and error.
